Superman Dwight Howard visited with the kids of Big Brothers Big Sisters in February. Now he's the charity's ambassador.

Orlando Magic super-stud Dwight Howard is now lending his considerable influence to promote a great cause. The Big Man is plugging Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“I think all kids need role models,” Howard says in a new YouTube video. “My parents were mine. And now it’s my turn — as a dad and also someone other kids look up to. That’s why I support Big Brothers Big Sisters… It helps kids achieve in school and in life. Every day, they come looking for role models.”

The piece is the first of a series of videos that will run over the next year, says Jennifer Rider, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida. “A lot of it will be social media, so he’ll be doing a lot of tweeting on our behalf too.”

Howard first came to meet the kids in February, when he launched his D12 Foundation at the Big Brothers Big Sisters offices. His own foundation is aimed at “making a long-lasting impact on the lives of children world-wide.”

“Our kids were obviously thrilled,” Rider says. “And now what he’s really doing is trying to spread the word of our mission, encouraging people to start something by donating their time or their money. No matter how much you give, everybody has the power to make a difference.”

And when Howard said kids come looking for role models, he meant it. Right now there are 953 children on a list at the Central Florida Big Brothers Big Sisters who are waiting for mentors to sign up.
